10 exciting reasons to visit Louvre Abu Dhabi

While I sipped my coffee this morning deciding how to spend the coming weekend, I stumbled upon an exciting news for people in UAE: The Louvre Abu Dhabi is all set to open its doors to public for the first time on November 11, 2017!

Yes, you’ve heard it right, Louvre is coming to UAE. So whether you are an art-enthusiast or not, resident or a tourist, this seems like one of those places in UAE you must-not-miss!

So here is a compilation of why the Louvre Abu Dhabi seems promising.

  1. It is the Arab world’s first museum of its  kind that represents a universal museum that focuses on human art across world cultures and history. And of course the only other Louvre in the world besides Louvre Paris.
  2. Louvre Abu Dhabi has been in process since the last TEN years. Imagine the thought and hard-work that might have gone in there.
  3. There is an intergovernmental agreement between the UAE and France to loan out Musee Du Louvre’s name for 30 years and 6 months. The artwork also has been loaned for 10 years.
  4. The museum is designed in the shape of a dome stretching up-to 180 meter. This comprises of 8000 unique metal starts set in a geometric pattern. During the daylight the ‘rain of light’ design is formed underneath the dome, making it appear like one is walking under the palm trees of UAE.
  5. There is a wall of porcelain tiles called ‘Propagation 2017’ that depict hand-drawn circles that have been derived from the fingerprints of Sheikh Zayed, the founding father of UAE. Imagine!
  6. Original artwork (loaned temporarily) includes Leonardo Da Vinci’s ‘La Belle Ferronniere’ from Musee Du Louvre, Vincent Van Gogh’s self-portrait from Musee d’Orsay an Napoleon crossing the Alps from Chateau de Versailles.
  7. The gallery dedicated to universal religions will feature the texts: A leaf from the blue Quran, a Gothic Bible and texts from Buddhism and Taoism.
  8. There are a total of 23 galleries that are divided into 12 chapters, each chapter indicating an era in history.
  9. Parents can now introduce their kids to a special kids’ museum inside, made specially for children aged 6-12.
  10. There aren’t just artworks in there. There is also a cafe and a souvenir shop to explore!

There is a lot more that I found out about the Louvre Abu Dhabi but I must limit the post to TEN reasons only and let you explore the rest yourself!

Who needs to go to Paris to admire art now? UAE has it all covered for us starting this weekend! But I have to admit, I am even more excited about this news because of having a chance to visit the Louvre Paris just last month so this news comes to me as the news of Paris coming to Abu Dhabi! yay.

That’s all for my pre-visit review on the Louvre Abu Dhabi, I promise to write a post-visit review to compare how much it lived up to my expectations and the hype. For that, stay tuned and keep following the blog. ❤
